These workshops combine important elements of National Curriculum requirements for KS2 music in an engaging and stimulating classroom environment, offering an accessible presentation of an important and fascinating cornerstone of Indian culture. Whether as a stand-alone introduction, or a tuition-based course, there is always much fun, learning and improvisation in this diverse musical and percussion experience.
In a typical hour's session, pupils will:
· Recognise, recite and improvise with the unique language of North Indian drumming and dance
· Learn to follow and count cyclical beat-structures
· Experience quiet, focused listening
· Try 'hands-on tabla' using basic technique and phrases
· Be an integral part of an exciting percussion ensemble

Introductory one-off workshop
Generally 60 - 90 minutes for whole classes.
Extended workshop/intensive
More emphasis here on hands-on and improvisation.
Short tuition courses
Three to four one hour sessions, a week apart and including the introductory workshop.
After-school teachers’ sessions
Usually for primary or middle schools, these are often incorporated into a typical day of workshops, where ideas for follow-ups and new approaches to working with pulse and rhythm can be explored.
Workshops can be designed around your particular curriculum needs.
Fees vary according to contact time and your school’s distance from Brighton.
