INDIAN TABLA WORKSHOPS | PRIMARY SCHOOLS
These workshops combine key elements of National Curriculum requirements for KS2 music in
an engaging and stimulating classroom environment, offering an accessible presentation of an
important cornerstone of Indian culture.
In a typical hour's session, pupils will:
- Recognise, recite and improvise with the unique language of North Indian drumming and
dance

Learn to follow and count cyclical beat-structures
- Experience quiet, focused listening
- Play tabla using basic phrases and technique
- Be part of a dynamic percussion ensemble
SOME WORKSHOP AND COURSE OPTIONS
Introductory workshop
Generally 60 to 90 minutes for whole classes.
Extended workshops
More emphasis here on technique and improvisation.
Short tuition courses
Typically, 3 to 4 one hour sessions, a week apart, and including the introductory workshop.
After-school teachers’ sessions
These are often incorporated into a day of workshops, where ideas for follow-ups and new
approaches to working with pulse and rhythm can be explored.
