From KS3 to A-level, and especially useful for pupils with an interest in vocal, instrumental and rhythmic improvisation, a stand-alone session will typically include:
· Learning the fundamentals of the unique language of North Indian drumming and dance
· Overview of traditional tabla repertoire / presentation of cyclical structures and potential for beat sub-division
· Analysis of themes and variations for rhythmic improvisation
· Listening to classical performances by Indian masters
· Hands-on: learning basic technique and phrases / improvising with vocal recitation
· A cultural perspective of the classical music and learning in South Asia
SOME WORKSHOP AND COURSE OPTIONS
Introductory one-off workshop
KS3: typically 80 - 100 minutes for whole classes.
GCSE to A-level: generally 120 minute sessions.
Extended workshop/intensive, with more emphasis on hands-on and improvisation:
Ideal for KS4 GCSE and A-level music groups, generally 2 – 3 hour sessions.
Workshops and short courses can also be designed to include any specific requirements, and to achieve an optimum balance between, for instance, theory and hands-on drumming.
