Special Educational Needs

  • Bespoke input for pupils with EBD / Pupil Referral Units
  • ASC Units / Nurture group sessions and courses

Necessarily, work in this area of education is designed around the needs and abilities of children and young people. Wherever required, there will be the support of trained carers, assistants and music therapists.

Broadly, our approach involves: immersion in an engaging and enjoyable musical experience; an emphasis on such desirable outcomes as enhanced confidence and self-esteem; encouragement of positive communication and interaction with peers and adults; facilitation of learning individual parts within a group activity.

There is also the potential to work in a remedial way with important rhythmic rudiments such as keeping a steady beat, and to introduce appropriate cross-curricular and cultural investigations.

Sessions will typically include:

  • Physical activity and exercises
  • Development of coordination and motor skills
  • Teaching new musical techniques
  • Reduction of stress and anxiety through relaxation
